Willett Family Estate Bottled Single Barrel Bourbon Barrel #7128 is part of Willett’s highly collectible Family Estate “purple top” single barrel program, where each barrel is individually selected, bottled at natural strength, and released in extremely limited quantities.
This specific barrel, nicknamed “Don’t H8 The Player,” was aged for 8 years in new charred white oak barrels before being bottled uncut and unfiltered. The exact release yielded only about 177 bottles, making it a very small production run compared to most mainstream bourbons.
Bottled at around 126.4 proof (63.2% ABV), this whiskey sits in the high barrel-strength category typical of Willett’s more intense single barrels. At this proof, the bourbon shows significant concentration from aging, delivering a dense and layered drinking experience.
On the nose, it typically opens with spicy oak, brown sugar, caramel, vanilla, and light mint, along with faint herbal and cherry tones. The palate is bold and structured, showing toffee, caramel, cocoa, dark cherry, leather, tobacco, and oak spice, often accompanied by a slightly grassy or “Willett funk” character that adds complexity. The finish is long and warming with pepper, oak tannin, and lingering sweetness.
Despite the high proof, well-selected Willett barrels like #7128 are often praised for maintaining balance between sweetness, spice, and oak intensity, rather than becoming overly sharp. This is part of what makes the purple-top single barrels so sought after—each barrel is unique, and the best ones combine maturity with surprising depth and drinkability.
