Willett Family Estate Bottled Single Barrel Bourbon “Dancing On Cloud 9” comes from Barrel #5957 and is part of Willett’s highly collectible purple-top single barrel program, where each bottle is drawn from a single hand-selected barrel and bottled at natural strength with no blending or filtration.
This barrel was aged for approximately 9 years in new charred American white oak, a maturity point where Willett bourbon typically develops strong oak structure while still retaining bright fruit and grain character. The result is a dense, high-energy whiskey that sits in the “fully developed but still vibrant” zone of Willett’s single barrel range.
At 133.4 proof, this release is firmly in the upper tier of Willett barrel strength. The high proof is a result of both long aging and significant evaporation in the rickhouse, concentrating flavor and alcohol intensity into a powerful, full-bodied spirit.
On the nose, it typically shows toasted caramel, vanilla bean, dark cherry, brown sugar, and oak char, sometimes with subtle floral or fruity lift. The palate is rich and layered, delivering butterscotch, cinnamon, cocoa, dried fruit, leather, and baking spice, followed by deeper oak and toasted almond notes.
The texture is thick and oily, coating the palate with each sip. Despite the high proof, well-selected Willett barrels like this often maintain balance between sweetness and spice rather than becoming overly hot. The finish is long and warming, with lingering oak spice, caramel, and dark fruit sweetness.
“Dancing On Cloud 9” is a barrel-specific nickname tied to Barrel #5957, giving this release a distinct identity within Willett’s single barrel bourbon lineup.
