Description
The Macallan Rare Cask is a spectacular monument to the art of cask selection and sensory evaluation. Out of the hundreds of thousands of barrels resting in the warehouses at Speyside, fewer than one percent meet the rigorous strictness required to earn the “Rare Cask” label. This expression is constructed by marrying liquid from exceptionally scarce casks—many from cooperages that no longer exist—that have reached a unique pinnacle of flavor and color intensity.
The soul of Rare Cask rests in its heavy reliance on first-fill European oak casks that were handcrafted and seasoned with fine Oloroso sherry in Jerez, Spain. This specific wood type gives the single malt a dense, velvety texture and coaxes out a spectacular ruby-red mahogany hue that is entirely natural. Bottled at an elegant 43% ABV (86 proof), Rare Cask bridges the gap between classic old-world Macallan richness and a vibrant, highly expressive modern complexity.
