By bottling the liquid straight from the barrel at its natural proof, Maker’s Mark preserves the dense wood oils, complex barrel sugars, and rich tannins that are naturally softened during the standard proofing-down process.
Because the mash bill centers on soft red winter wheat rather than aggressive rye, this bourbon remains remarkably smooth and drinkable despite its high proof.
