Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey represents a spectacular, highly creative evolution in traditional bourbon maturation. Crafted at the historic Woodford Reserve Distillery in Versailles, Kentucky, this expression isolates the aging process to explore just how deeply wood can transform a spirit. By taking fully matured, premium straight bourbon and introducing it to a secondary, completely custom barrel-finishing program, Woodford Reserve created an entirely new paradigm of luxury flavor profiles.
The secret to this expression’s immense depth is its unique two-barrel maturation process. The liquid begins its life aging traditionally in handcrafted, charred new American oak barrels. Once fully matured, the bourbon is drawn out and placed into a secondary new oak barrel for an additional year.
This second barrel is a custom masterpiece: it is heavily toasted for a long duration to draw out maximum wood sugars, vanillins, and lactones, and then subjected to a very brief, light char. This secondary interaction allows the 90.4-proof spirit to bypass the harsh, smoky elements of traditional barrel char and instead extract concentrated layers of dark chocolate, honey, and marzipan. Housed in the brand’s iconic, low-profile hip flask bottle with an added dark brown label strip, it stands as an elite volume driver on high-tier digital shelves.
