Inspired by the legendary Filipino hero LapuLapu, who defeated Ferdinand Magellan at the Battle of Mactan, this release continues the global journey begun with Boss Hog VII while celebrating the spirit of independence and exploration.
This exceptional 17-year-old single barrel straight rye whiskey is first matured in American oak before undergoing a unique double finish in high-toast Philippine rum casks. The rum casks impart delicate tropical fruit notes, rich molasses sweetness, and warm exotic spices while preserving WhistlePig’s signature bold rye character. Bottled at barrel strength (104.8–106.6 proof), each barrel offers its own unique personality and remarkable depth.
The nose opens with lush aromas of vanilla, underripe banana, fresh lemon, and molasses. On the palate, vibrant rye spice is complemented by cinnamon, citrus zest, butterscotch, light toffee, and subtle tropical fruit. The finish is exceptionally long and warming, revealing notes of leather, brown sugar, nutmeg, allspice, toasted oak, and lingering black pepper spice.
