Michter’s US-1 Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a masterclass in precision distilling. While many massive distilleries throw thousands of barrels together and call it a “small batch,” Michter’s sets an exacting standard: their blending tanks are strictly limited to a maximum of 20 barrels per batch. This allows the master blender to monitor every subtle variable, resulting in a remarkably consistent, top-shelf bourbon that handles like a luxury spirit.
Michter’s achieves its signature rich flavor profile through several unique production steps. They enter the spirit into the barrel at a lower proof (103 proof rather than the industry standard 125 proof), which allows the whiskey to dissolve the wood sugars more smoothly. The barrels are also made from wood that is air-dried for up to 36 months before being toasted and fire-charred, removing any bitter green-wood notes. Bottled at an approachable 91.4 proof, it delivers exceptional depth with zero harshness.
